Hi Daniel, The first thing that happened to me was that I went to bed and didn’t get up for three days. I didn’t tell anybody about it because I was so embarrassed. In fact, prior to that, I was sleeping ten to twelve hours a night and I would wake up feeling exhausted.
The same week, I got this horrible pain in my left eye. I just shrugged it off and told myself it would go away. Of course, the pain got much worse, so I called the eye clinic at Case Western University. I knew something was really wrong when they told me that they wanted me to get in my car and come right in as long as I could see. Once two to three Ophthalmologists had looked at my eye, they sent me directly to the hospital for an MRI. The next day I was told that it was probable that I had MS. Three months later, I got a definitive diagnosis on the basis of a subsequent MRI at the Cleveland Clinic.
The truth is that I had the symptoms of MS ten years prior to my official diagnosis. Needless to say, I lost my faith in the medical profession. Everytime I went to the doc’s and presented them with a plethora of symptoms, they would say that it was “all in my head.” I can now say that most MD’s are very mediocre at best. Once they run into something they are unable to diagnosis, they slap a psychiatirc label on it when in fact they should recommend that you see a specialist.
I wish you the best of health and luck, Daniel!
